What the rules say
Delta's deck permit rules
Delta's Building & Renovating page lists, under work not requiring a building permit, 'Landscaping, including patios and decks less than 600 mm (1 ft 11 in) above grade.' Decks at or above that height are not exempted; the page asks residents to confirm with the Application Centre.
Other local rules worth knowing
The same page says a demolition permit is required for a structure larger than 10 m² in area and taller than 600 mm, and lists a porch or sundeck among examples. Questions go to the Application Centre (604-946-3380).
