PVC decks
PVC decking is made entirely of plastic, with no wood fibre at all. That makes it the most moisture-resistant board you can buy and one of the longest-lasting, which suits shady, damp yards. It's also the most expensive common option, usually 15 to 30 percent more than mid-range composite.

Best on the dampest decks
Where a deck sits under trees, close to the ground or on the north side of the house, PVC's lack of wood content is a real advantage. It doesn't take on water at all.
Like composite, it needs the right joist spacing and gapping for expansion, and it still sits on a wood frame that needs protecting. Ask your builder which product lines suit your exposure and colour choice.

PVC decking questions
Is PVC decking better than composite?
It resists moisture better and can last longer, which suits damp, shady decks. It also costs more and moves more with heat. For most sunny decks, good composite is the better value.
